Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes grants for buying an electric bicycle

1. Grants available in Grenoble

As part of their commitment to sustainable mobility, the Syndicat Mixte des Mobilités de l’Aire Grenobloise (SMMAG) and Grenoble Alpes Métropole offer financial assistance for the purchase of bicycles, whether conventional or electric-assist. This program, in effect until the end of September 2026, aims to encourage residents to adopt more environmentally friendly modes of transportation.

The amounts of the grants vary depending on the type of bicycle and the applicant’s reference taxable income per share (RFRPP). Here is an overview of the grants available:

The Yuvy, Solo, Duo, and Jumbo models are grouped under the term electric-assist cargo bicycle.

2. Requirements to meet

  • You must be over 18 years old.
  • You must reside in the Grenoble Alpes Métropole or Grésivaudan area.
  • You must have a reference taxable income per household share (RFRPP) below €22,983, or hold a “disability” or “priority” Mobility Inclusion Card (CMI), with no income requirement.

The following are not eligible: mountain bikes, road bikes, electric-assist bicycles with lead-acid batteries, and bicycles whose assistance exceeds 25 km/h.

3. Steps to receive the assistance

  1. Obtain a quote from a partner bicycle retailer.
  2. Submit the application online at aidevelo.mobilites-m.fr or visit a mobility agency (Grenoble or Crolles).
  3. Wait for the application to be approved: if complete, a purchase voucher valid for 30 days will be issued.
  4. Return to the bicycle retailer with this voucher to complete the purchase.

1. Assistance available in Saint-Étienne

Since the beginning of 2025, Saint-Étienne Métropole has encouraged the purchase of new electric-assist bicycles by offering a subsidy of up to €200, subject to available funds. This initiative aims to promote more environmentally friendly modes of transportation in everyday life.

Note: Only one grant is awarded per household.

2. Eligibility requirements

To qualify for this subsidy, the following criteria must be met:

  • You must reside in one of the municipalities of Saint-Étienne Métropole.
  • You must have purchased a new electric-assist bicycle after January 1, 2025, compliant with the NF EN 15194 standard.
  • You must not have received similar assistance between 2016 and 2024.
  • Do not resell the bicycle within three years of purchase.

3. How to apply

You must compile a complete application including the following documents (PDF format):

  • A valid identity document (front and back).
  • The 2024 tax notice (for 2023 income), indicating the reference taxable income and the number of household shares.
  • The bicycle invoice, dated on or after January 1, 2025, and issued in the applicant’s name.
  • The bicycle’s certificate of conformity with the NF EN 15194 standard.
  • Proof of address dated within the last three months, bearing the same name and address as on the invoice.
  • A bank account details statement (RIB).
  • A declaration on honor, to be completed and signed online.

The application form is available online on the Saint-Étienne Métropole website. You have one month to provide the supporting documents requested by the local authority.
