Because we all stand to gain, the transition to more affordable, easier, and flexible mobility is underway. To achieve this, electric vehicles, especially Electric Assisted Bicycles (EABs), are becoming increasingly popular—particularly for those commuting to work. Despite the cost, purchasing a new electric vehicle is a long-term investment. After detailing the Bike Purchase Bonus in a previous article, we explain here how to benefit from assistance through the very recent Sustainable Mobility Package.

The Program

What exactly is the Sustainable Mobility Package? It is a flat-rate aid that employees can receive from their employer to cover personal transportation costs for commuting to work. Until now, this support could amount to a maximum of €400 per year and is exempt from taxes and social contributions. In 2021, the ceiling even increased to €500. Combined with public aid, an employee can thus receive up to €1,000 per year if they choose to travel by bike. This is the case in Île-de-France or Lyon, for example.

Note that the eligible means of transport include bicycles (whether electric or mechanical), carpooling, rental or shared vehicles (such as electric scooters), and public transport excluding subscription fees. Good news: the package is perfectly suited for purchasing our Yuvy Electric Bike, and can cover up to two-thirds of its cost in the first year!

Objectives

At the end of 2019, the government passed the Mobility Law under the initiative of the Ministry of Ecology. Very concretely, the law aims to improve daily travel. Then, in May, the program officially came into effect. After the lockdown, the Sustainable Mobility Package was introduced to encourage as many people as possible to favor cleaner transportation, also aiming at that time to limit the spread of the virus. This flat-rate aid is primarily intended for private sector employees and employers. For public sector employees, the conditions differ somewhat and are explained in detail on the government’s website.

To help you navigate, we have partnered with BeeToGreen, a platform for companies and their employees. Thanks to this free platform, companies can offer their employees the option to purchase an Electric Assisted Bicycle by directly integrating public aid and the company mobility package (€400/year) at the time of purchase. The Yuvy is already available on the platform.

The goal is to increase bike commuting between home and work from 3% to 10%. By committing, employers contribute to employee well-being and also bring them together around a common project. In short, the ambitions are multiple and virtuous!

**

At first glance, buying an electric bike may seem like a significant expense for an individual, but you now need to consider the many aids available to you. Generally combinable, they can cover a large part of the purchase price and enable you to make this investment. Once the purchase is amortized, it’s all gain since you will continue to receive this package every year. Moreover, if you’re unsure whether you can benefit from the Sustainable Mobility Package, talk to your employer who will likely help you take the step toward eco-friendly mobility.
